Remake of El agente topo (2020)
Chronology
Charles, a retiree, gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad from a private detective and becomes a mole in a secret investigation at a nursing home. Based on the Chilean documentary “El Agente Topo”. Ted Danson, about 76, plays Charles, a retired engineering professor living in San Francisco. He is also the producer of this series, which stands out from most others by avoiding the all-too-common dialogue in obscene language.
He is healthy but perhaps bored with his daily routine
This one is, in fact, very clean and more pleasant as a result. In the story, his wife had died perhaps a year ago from complications from Alzheimer’s. He enjoys reading magazines and newspapers and often cuts out an interesting copy to send to his married daughter in Sacramento. One day, through a hole cut out, he sees a small, short advertisement.
Charles will be the key
Find someone between the ages of 75 and 85 for a specific assignment. This leads him to a private investigator hired by a man whose mother lives in some sort of upscale retirement home in San Francisco. Valuable jewelry has been stolen and the son wants the thief caught. So he is hired to check out the place, observe and report back as the person to uncover what is going on.
My wife and I enjoyed streaming it
Ted Danson is just perfect in this role, which he plays with a lot of humor. Quickly it becomes less about who the thief was and more about the relationships. The cast of characters are played by a group of great actors, many of them old favorites we have gotten to know over the last 50 years or so. After watching the first three episodes in one evening, we watched the last five episodes in one sitting after our usual Saturday night steak and wine dinner.
One of the more entertaining ones we’ve seen
The ending sets up a sequel, I hope they make it.
